WALT write a report on whales Whales
Whales are mammals and they eat up to 8 tonnes of food per day. They eat squids, seals, dolphins and fish.
There are two groups of whales. One group has teeth and one group of whales have no teeth. Whales without teeth are called Baleen whales. Baleen whales swallow the fish and water. The water comes out of the whale’s bristles and the fish stays in its mouth and then the whale swallows the small fish.
Whales breathe through their blow hole. They blow water up to 10 metres high. Whales have huge tails. Their tail goes up and down and this helps them swim.
Whales are the largest animal in the world. They are longer than the tallest dinosaur. Blue whales are the biggest whale in the world. Whales have oily skin and they can stay under the water for an hour. Whales weigh about 30 elephants put together.
Whales give birth to live baby whales. They are called calves and they are the most beautiful sea mammals in the world. Baby whales feed on its mother’s milk. Baby whales stay with their mother while they learn to swim and dive. Some whales don’t know how to dive or swim especially when they are very young.
Whales can keep in touch with one another by making noises. They thump their huge tail or make loud clicking and squeaking sounds.
